Hailing from Norway, a country known for its high quality in both progressive and extreme metal, the expectations are always high when a new band emerges on the stage. The heavy progressive-metal band Frail Grounds challenge these expectations with their debut album, The Fields of Trauma.

Frail Grounds was formed late 2005, and released their first EP ‘Corrosion’ in 2008. Their musical vision was always to create interesting and flowing soundscapes, merging elements from different genres ranging from traditional heavy, progressive and extreme metal, yet always maintaining a melodic baseline.

The recording of the album ‘The Fields of Trauma’ started by the end of 2010 at Lionheart Studios, and was finished fall 2011. A conceptual album, ‘The Fields of Trauma’  follows an expedition deep into Siberia, and deals with how far a person might go under extreme circumstances, in order to achieve a sense of resolution.

Dali’s Dilemma

Dali’s Dilemma was a progressive metal band from California started in 1994 and split up sometime after their only album release. Their music is played on a high level of technical skill while somewhat lacking in emotional appeal.  I enjoy this album very much still after all those years.

News of what the members are doing now can’t be found, except that the keyboardist Matt Guillory worked with james LaBrie of Dream Theater on some of his solo albums and also was part of Explorers Club, a kind of Supergroup featuring, among others, LaBrie and Petrucci, D.C. Cooper (Royal Hunt), Terry Bozzio, Billy Sheehan and Steve Howe (Yes).

Their label Magna Carta is home of Shadow Gallery, Age Of Nemesis, Liquid Tension Experience and other famous bands.

Pyramaze could be called a really international band, formed in 2001 its members then lodged in Denmark, Sweden and the US. Their music is very heavy yet melodic power to progressive. Material for the first album was written by the guitarist Michael Kammeyer in Denmark, later the other members joined in and a trans atlantic cooperation involved keyboardist Jonah Weingarten and singer Lance King ( Balance Of Power, Mattson, King’s Machine, Gemini). Lance was later replaced by Matthew Barlow (Iced Earth), who recorded an album with the band before rejoining Iced Earth again.

2006 they played prog power usa festival

November 11 saw Michael Kammeyer leaving the band, he was replaced by long time friend and producer Jacob Hansen.

I think Pyramaze are working on the recordings for the next album right now.

They released three albums, Melancholy Beast (2004), Legend Of The Bone Carver (2006) and

Adagio is a French neo-classical progressive metal band, their music is dark, complex and played on a very high level of skill. The ruling spirit is Stéphan Forté the guitarist and composer who hired musicians back in 1999 to record the first album Sanctus Ignis. 2003 a stable band line-up had found itself and they toured for the first time.

To the question:”How would you describe Adagio ?” Stéphan Forté replies:” If I had to dedicate my life to create one, and only one painting, it would be a black and glossy painting, describing a detailed scene of the apocalypse, with beauty, passion and above all a strong dramatic dimension. The particularity of this painting is that it would have a size increasing constantly, each time getting deeper and wider”

Their releases:Archangels in Black

  • Sanctus Ignis (2001)
  • Underworld (2003)
  • A Band in Upperworld (Live-Album, 2004)
