Third Eye from Denmark, kick ass seriously

Sometimes it really pays off to check out “The Other Band” … recently I checked out the band that Anubis Gate guitarist Michael Bodin played in before joining (and is still playing in)

Third Eye is a melodic prog power act got me hooked immediately with their strong vocals and the almost humoristic way of playing. It seemed their music was saying to me, don’t take anything too seriously mate!

I saw that they are working on a new album. The one I am listening to right now dates back to 2010, I am looking forward to hearing more and more and more …

Pyramaze

Pyramaze could be called a really international band, formed in 2001 its members then lodged in Denmark, Sweden and the US. Their music is very heavy yet melodic power to progressive. Material for the first album was written by the guitarist Michael Kammeyer in Denmark, later the other members joined in and a trans atlantic cooperation involved keyboardist Jonah Weingarten and singer Lance King ( Balance Of Power, Mattson, King’s Machine, Gemini). Lance was later replaced by Matthew Barlow (Iced Earth), who recorded an album with the band before rejoining Iced Earth again.

2006 they played prog power usa festival

November 11 saw Michael Kammeyer leaving the band, he was replaced by long time friend and producer Jacob Hansen.

I think Pyramaze are working on the recordings for the next album right now.

They released three albums, Melancholy Beast (2004), Legend Of The Bone Carver (2006) and

Anubis Gate

Another band form Denmark, they have been around for ten years or so.

Their music emphsizes the prog element but they can also sound very hard and technical

Quote (from their page): “The past year (2011)  was a fabulous year for us. We released our 5. album which made many industry “best of 2011 lists”. And indeed it was voted as THE best album of 2011 by HEAVYMETAL.DK”

I wouldn’t go as far as that, indeed I very much prefer the full-blooded, playful, vitality-loaden 2009 release The Detached, but if you like this kind of music at all, you cannot go wrong with any of their albums. They are a goot to great band

Royal Hunt

4 piece power/prog metal band from Denmark

since 1992 they have released an album every two years on the average, and they must have undergone some funny phases, as there are some 80ies style easy-listening-rock songs up on youtube that would work well on Baywatch soundtrack anytime

their latest release Show Me How To Live (2011) is on my wishlist and I’m totally looking forward to listening to it. I think it is killer, very hard and melodic power metal with awesome vocals (DC Cooper), great composition and production.

I’ll do another post on their 2005 album Paper Blood later on.

To prelisten you must look them up on iTunes, CD Baby or amazon, as all songs off the new album are taken down by request of the band or label immediately

  1. One More Day
  2. Another Man Down
  3. An Empty Shell
  4. Hard Rain`s Coming
  5. Half Past Loneliness
  6. Show Me How To Live
